Build your study plan around output, not hours

“Study for two hours” is an input goal. “Ship a working form with validation and a test” is an output goal. Only one tells you whether you learned.

Hours are easy to schedule and hard to verify. Output is harder to define and much more useful. A plan built around artifacts gives you feedback before the course ends.

Turn a topic into a deliverable

  • Instead of “learn Flexbox”, build a responsive navigation that works with keyboard focus and narrow screens.
  • Instead of “learn joins”, answer a real reporting question with a query you can explain and test.
  • Instead of “learn TypeScript”, type an existing JavaScript module and remove every any.
  • Instead of “learn Docker”, package a small service and prove it runs from a clean image.

Keep the artifact small enough to finish in one or two sessions. The point is not the artifact; it is the evidence it creates about what you can do without the tutorial open.
